A moderate magnitude 5.0 earthquake struck waters off Sandakan, Sabah, at 9.11pm on Monday, according to the Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia).
The earthquake’s epicentre was located at 4.9° North and 118.7° East, at a depth of 10km.
MetMalaysia said the tremor occurred about 48km east of Lahad Datu, Sabah.
Shaking was felt in several areas along Sabah’s east coast.
The department said it will continue to monitor the situation.
