Malaysians Can Now Activate Petrol Pumps Using Voice Commands

Malaysians can now activate their petrol pumps using voice commands in English, Bahasa Melayu, Mandarin or Tamil through Setel’s new AI-powered Voice Fuelling feature.

Currently in beta, the feature allows users to state their pump number after enabling Voice Fuelling in the Setel app, with the transaction then processed using their selected payment method and fuelling preferences.

The feature builds on Setel’s existing One-tap Fuelling service and is being introduced with support from PETRONAS dealers and ground crew, who will assist customers with setting it up at participating stations.

Setel chief executive officer Abdullah Ayman Awaluddin said the feature was designed to make fuelling simpler for users who prefer speaking over navigating an app.

“At Setel, we have always believed technology should make everyday life a little easier, not give people more things to figure out. That is what inspired us to take fuelling beyond tapping a button and make it as simple as saying your pump number,” he said.

He said supporting multiple languages was intended to make the technology more accessible by allowing users to interact in the language they are most comfortable with.

The company said the feature is available to motorists, motorcyclists, fleet operators and e-hailing drivers, although it remains in beta.
