Anwar, Min Aung Hlaing Hold Talks On Myanmar Issues

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim held a bilateral meeting with Myanmar President Min Aung Hlaing today during the latter’s two-day official visit to Malaysia.

The two leaders first held a one-on-one meeting at Kompleks Perdana Putra here before leading their respective delegations in bilateral talks.

Anwar received Min Aung Hlaing at the complex at 9am, followed by an official welcoming ceremony.

The repatriation of Myanmar nationals in Malaysia is among the key issues expected to be discussed during the visit, which began yesterday.

The meeting also provides an opportunity for Anwar to continue direct engagement with Myanmar, in line with the decision of the 48th ASEAN Summit in May 2026 to maintain a constructive and principled approach towards the country.

Wisma Putra said Myanmar remained an important part of ASEAN and Malaysia, as an ASEAN member, would continue supporting the bloc’s efforts towards peace and reconciliation while ensuring access to humanitarian assistance in Myanmar.

Malaysia would also work closely with all ASEAN member states to promote stability and prosperity in the region.

Among the Cabinet ministers present at the bilateral meeting were Foreign Minister Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan, Defence Minister Datuk Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin, Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail and Investment, Trade and Industry Minister Datuk Seri Johari Abdul Ghani, who is also the minister-in-attendance for the visit.
