Malaysia Secures 20 ASEAN Energy Awards, Surpassing 2025 Performance

Malaysia secured 20 regional recognitions at the ASEAN Energy Awards 2026, up from 16 last year, reflecting growing capabilities in energy efficiency, renewable energy and sustainable technology.

The Energy Transition and Water Transformation Ministry said Malaysia claimed eight category wins, seven first runner-up positions and five second runner-up finishes, improving on the six category wins recorded in 2025.

The awards recognised Malaysian organisations for projects involving energy-efficient buildings, biogas, solar and micro-hydro power, alongside emerging technologies such as green hydrogen, waste-to-energy and battery energy storage systems.

The recipients had previously distinguished themselves at the National Energy Awards 2026 before representing Malaysia at the regional competition.

The ministry said the stronger performance demonstrated the ability of local industries, businesses and institutions to translate national energy transition goals into practical solutions.

The achievements come as Malaysia advances its National Energy Transition Roadmap and National Energy Policy 2022-2040 to strengthen energy security, sustainability and economic competitiveness.

The ASEAN Energy Awards 2026 were presented in Manila, the Philippines, alongside the 44th ASEAN Ministers on Energy Meeting and ASEAN Energy Business Forum.
