Schools In Selangor, Kuala Lumpur And Three Other States Closed Tomorrow

The government announced late evening that schools in Johor, Melaka, Negeri Sembilan, Selangor, Kuala Lumpur and Putrajaya will be closed on Friday, Oct 9 after air quality continued to deteriorate across several parts of the country.

Education Minister Datuk Seri Fadhlina Sidek said the closure will also cover schools in Rompin district, Pahang, while schools in other states will continue operating according to the normal academic calendar.

She said the decision was made based on current haze conditions to safeguard the health and safety of students and school personnel.

“Schools will be closed throughout Johor, Melaka, Negeri Sembilan, Selangor, Kuala Lumpur and Putrajaya, while in Pahang only the Rompin district is affected,” Fadhlina said in a Facebook post on Thursday.

Schools in Perlis, Perak, Penang, Sabah, Sarawak and Labuan will operate as usual.

Fadhlina also instructed all State Education Departments and District Education Offices to continue monitoring haze conditions and take immediate action if necessary.

She acknowledged that school closures could disrupt parents’ daily arrangements, particularly childcare planning.

The minister said future closure decisions would be communicated earlier where possible to give parents sufficient time to make the necessary arrangements.

Parents were also advised to follow official updates from their respective schools, District Education Offices and State Education Departments for the latest developments.

“The safety and health of our children and school community will always remain our priority,” she said.
