Former Unit Trust, PRS Consultant Charged For Unlicensed Activities

The Securities Commission Malaysia (SC) has charged a former unit trust consultant and Private Retirement Scheme (PRS) consultant with two offences relating to alleged unlicensed capital market activities.

The SC said Henry Tan Soong Yan, 35, was charged at the Ipoh Magistrate’s Court for allegedly holding himself out as carrying on the business of dealing in securities without a licence.

He was also charged for allegedly holding himself out as a representative of Public Bank Bhd in relation to dealing in securities without a licence.

According to the SC, the offence allegedly took place between January and September 2021, while the Section 58(1) offence was alleged to have occurred in February 2022. Both offences were said to have taken place in Ipoh, Perak.

Henry pleaded not guilty to both charges before Magistrate Norizan Riduan.

He was granted bail of RM10,000 with one surety for each charge.

The court also ordered him to surrender his passport and report to the SC’s investigating officer once every two months pending the disposal of the cases.

The matter has been fixed for mention on Dec 16, 2026.
