Selangor Finding Alternatives For SPM Exam If Haze Drags

The Selangor State Education Department (JPN) has been urged to prepare an alternative learning and examination plan if the haze persists, particularly to ensure candidates sitting for the 2026 Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) are not disrupted.

Selangor Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari said the state government is prepared to assist and facilitate the department’s requirements to ensure learning can continue if students are unable to attend school because of poor air quality.

“All schools in Selangor are closed today and have implemented home-based teaching and learning, or PdPR. We will meet JPN to see how the education process can continue without disruption, especially as the SPM examination is approaching,” he said.

Amirudin said the authorities had initially expected the haze to subside by mid-October, but the latest indications from the Malaysian Meteorological Department suggest conditions could potentially continue into November.

He said a contingency plan may therefore be needed if the situation stretches into November or December, particularly given the proximity of the national examination period.

The 2026 SPM examination is scheduled to run from Oct 26 to Dec 17.
