Allianz General Insurance Company (Malaysia) Berhad has approved RM2.2 million (mn) in interim payments for flood victims in Penang, Kedah and Perak. The company received 338 claims as a result of the recent floods in the northern region over the last two weeks and has expedited residential and commercial claims approval. These include setting all residential claims that were within RM50,000 on the spot and fast tracking all commercial claims within that amount.

Collin Peter Pereira, Allianz General Insurance Company (Malaysia) Berhad’s Penang Branch Manager and Jayapragash Amblavanar, Head of Claims paid a visit to claimant Ooi Seng Chye at his home in Penang to deliver a waterproof survival kit.

By mobilising Allianz’s Claims Caravan to various locations, motor and home insurance policy holders whose homes were affected by the flood were able to file their claims, with an adjuster assigned to survey the property within 24 hours.

Customers that lodged flood claims at the caravan also received a waterproof survival kit, complete with blankets, towels, first aid kits and torchlights.

According to Jayapragash Amblavanar, Head of Claims for Allianz said that many Malaysians pass on flood cover because they did not think it could happen to them. However, people should be more proactive and not just wait for the aftermath of something bad before reacting.
