Fun-Filled Musical Splendour In February

Dewan Filharmonik PETRONAS (DFP) and the Malaysian Philharmonic Orchestra (MPO) gear up to mesmerise the audience this February with a host of dazzling concerts.

Starting off the month is the popular MPO’s Family Fun Day series concerts themed Let’s Tour The World! which showcase music from around the world with a classical flair that will delight families, led by MPO’s Resident Conductor Gerard Salonga. It is on Sunday, 2 February 2020 at 2.30 pm and 4.30 pm.

Cirque de la Symphonie returns to perform with the MPO on Saturday, 8 February 2020 at 8.30 pm and Sunday, 9 February 2020 at 3.00pm. The concerts will feature ‘live’ violin aerialist!

Next, the MPO will present concerts themed Berlioz: Obsession where MPO’s Conductor Laureate Kees Bakels will conduct while mezzo-soprano Fleur Barron will make her debut in these all-Berlioz concerts. The concerts are scheduled on Saturday, 15 February 2020 at 8.30 pm and Sunday, 16 February 2020 at 3.00 pm.

On 17 February 2020 at 8.30 pm, the Malaysian Philharmonic Youth Orchestra (MPYO) will push its music boundaries by collaborating with Indonesian jazz band, Krakatau. Krakatau’s signature blends of rock, jazz and traditional Indonesian music has cemented its place as one of the most prominent jazz-fusion band in its 35 years in the music industry.

This is followed by concerts themed The Russian Affairs scheduled on Saturday, 22 February 2020 at 8.30 pm and Sunday, 23 February 2020 at 3.00 pm. Bakels returns to the podium to conduct works by Scriabin and Rachmaninoff. The concerts will feature the debut of Czech pianist Lukáš Vondráček on the DFP stage.

Lastly, February will close off with concerts themed The Elegance Of Mozart featuring Mozart’s masterpieces on Saturday, 29 February 2020 at 8.30 pm and Sunday, 1 March 2020 at 3.00 pm. The concerts will feature clarinetist Alessandro Carbonare and will be conducted by Bakels.
