For many, the dream of witnessing the mesmerising spectacle of the Northern Lights in Norway or Iceland remains distant. However, residents of Singapore are soon to experience the next best thing without leaving the city.

Gardens by the Bay is gearing up to unveil its latest art installation, Borealis, designed to replicate the visuals and ambiance of the famed Northern Lights. Located in the enchanting Supertree Grove, Borealis promises to captivate visitors with its intricate layers of light and cloud particles, illuminating the night skies of Singapore.

Adding to the ethereal atmosphere is the accompanying soundtrack composed by French artist Guillaume Desbois, enhancing the immersive experience for all who attend.

Created by Swiss-based artist Dan Acher, Borealis has garnered acclaim worldwide during its stops in various cities, including Seoul and Birmingham. Visitors have lauded the installation, with one describing it as “amazing and unforgettable.”

Describing Borealis as both a work of art and a technological marvel, Acher explains that the installation harnesses beams of light to create the illusion of the Northern Lights. However, he emphasizes that the ever-changing nature of Borealis, influenced by factors such as wind and humidity, ensures that each experience is unique and beyond human control.

Admission to Borealis is free, with a preview scheduled for Saturday, May 4, from 7.30pm to 8.15pm. The installation will be open to the public from Sunday, May 5, onwards, operating exclusively on Saturdays, Sundays, and Mondays.
