Selangor Preparing Endemic Phase Framework

The Covid-19 Selangor Special Task Force (STFC) has drafted guidelines and measures to control the epidemic which is entering the endemic phase at the end of this month.

Its chairman Datuk Seri Dr Dzulkefly Ahmad said the guide will cover the challenges facing public health in the future as well as the post -pandemic aspects. He informed that suggestions and views on the matter have been given to the State Government and Health EXCO Dr Siti Mariah Mahmud apart from holding a meeting very soon.

"We cannot take action during the contagion period alone, we must make thorough preparations in terms of structure, infrastructure, capacity, staff, including looking at the challenges in the event of the spread of Delta variants or other viruses he added.

Selangor is the biggest state in terms of population and GDP, its stability and security in managing the endemic will be essential for the National Recovery Plan spearheaded by the Federal government. The State needs to be proactive and prepare for the coming challenges where it will have to contain future outbreaks or clusters without Federal intervention.

The former Health Minister has been vocal on the nations approach in tackling the pandemic who has insisted on conducting more tests as a way to weed out potential spreaders. This will also be the approach for Selangor moving forward, the State has seen a reduction in cases for the past couple weeks as it hits above the 80% immunisation level.

With the framework in place, each state will have its own policies and threshold figures before evoking action plans like shutting down or closing borders. Although this could potentially be challenging for the public with differing policies issued by different states, there will need to be a holistic approach by the states to streamline all under one cohesive language.
