Taliworks Closes Second Contract Worth RM602 Million From PUAS

Taliworks lands another contract from Selangor State owned Pengurusan Air Selangor or PUAS for the proposed development of Sg. Rasau water treatment plant and water supply scheme (Phase 1) and another project for treated water pumping station at the existing Bukit Lipat Kajang Reservoirs.

The estimated worth of the contract is in the region of RM602 million, this is after the company recently received a RM294 million under Selangor Darul Ehsan Package 3 at the same location.

In a filing, Taliworks said the scope of work will comprise designing and building of the proposed Rasau Treated Water Pumping Station, Treated Water Pumping Mains to existing Bukit Lipat Kajang Reservoirs, Distribution and Associated Works including civil, structural and building works, pumping plant mechanical works, electrical works, instrumentation, controls and automation works and building services.

PUAS has been active in refurbishing and upgraded the state’s water system and also identifying new water source to cater for the growing demand. As part of its expansion, the Rasau Water Supply Scheme with a total of 5 to 10 existing tin mining ponds have been identified as a potential water source in the form of ‘Off-River Storage Facility’.

These ponds of various sizes, where the biggest pond in the area is about 164 hectares, are located in the district of Sepang and Petaling. With the significant improvement in Sungai Klang water quality, this river is now a viable potential water source. There is a potential for these ponds to store raw water source received mainly from Sungai Klang and to a lesser extent, from Sungai Air Hitam and Sungai Rasau.

Without the Rasau Water Treatment plant, the current water supply reserve margin in Klang will drop to 1.9% by 2024. The Rasau Water Supply Scheme is expected to have the capacity of producing clean water supply of up to 700 MLD to the Klang region by the first stage of completion in 2024.
