Digi is delaying the shutdown of the 3G network scheduled for 31 December into 2022, as it seeks to minimise disruption in view of the recent floods and preparation for more wet days ahead.
Accordingly, Perak, Penang, Kedah, and Perlis customers will be able to continue with 3G until 3 January, while the shutdown in Selangor and Federal Territories will be on 6 January 2022.
It says that the planned retirement of Sarawak will proceed as scheduled after it had successfully shut down networks in Sabah, Kelantan, Terengganu, Pahang, Johor, Melaka, and Negeri Sembilan.
The nationwide 3G shutdown is part of the Jalinan Digital Negara (JENDELA) initiative, which aims to enhance Malaysia’s digital infrastructure and provide seamless digital connectivity for all. The shutdown will enable the 3G spectrum to be repurposed to enhance the 4G LTE network performance, allowing for a better quality of internet experience for all users.
