Touch’n Go Latest NFC Feature Card Could Solve The Top Up Issue

Touch ‘n Go has confirmed that it will be launching a new version of its card that comes with Near Field Communication (NFC) technology, said to be introduced in a couple of weeks, the new card will tap into NFC technology making credit transfer with mobile devices much earlier.

TNG Digital Chief Executive Officer Ignatius Ong said the new card will allow users to easily top up their balance using a NFC-enabled port via the TnG eWallet application.

“The Touch ‘n Go card that we have in circulation for the last 20 years does not have the capability to directly top up your cards from the eWallet because you need a specific card reader to actually do the transactions for security reasons,” said Ong.

These are some of the efforts taken by the provider of both the TNGe ewallet and the card business which has been for years trying to integrate the two systems. CIMB owned Touch’n Go which started life as a prepaid card for toll payments has evolved into a tap and pay for even parking and other payments, however with the launch of its eWallet which is a business in partnership with Alibaba, the platform had been unable to migrate all its card users into the wallet and vice versa.

Perhaps with the addition NFC into the cards the technology gap can be closed and users will be able to find new uses for the card and more reason to subscribe to the ewallet.
