6000 Students To Benefit From MRC “Back To School Programme”

Malaysian Rubber Council (MRC) ease children of the smallholders and B40 categories returning to school through essential school equipment and financial assistance worth RM990,000, all over Malaysia.

MRC Chairman, YB Dr Daroyah Alwi launched the Program Bantuan MRC – Back To School Programme, a strategic collaboration with Majlis Pengetua Sekolah Malaysia (MPSM) and Gabungan Majlis Guru Besar Malaysia (GMGBM); an initiative by Sustainanbility Unit under the Education Development Programme.

The programme in Selangor, which will benefit 502 students from 37 secondary and primary schools, will be extended nationwide before the 2022/2023 school session begins.

“6,000 students, 3,000 each from primary and secondary schools from all states in Malaysia including Sabah, Sarawak and the federal territories will benefit from this initiative.” said Dr Daroyah.

She added that the MRC Education Development Programme comprises various initiatives to reduce education gaps amongst the children of smallholders, B40 and the underprivileged community across the country. The Back To School programme is an addition to MRC’s contribution of electronic devices, including free internet data plan and online tuition to 2,000 students last year under the Bantuan Prihatin MRC – E-Learning initiative.

The spread of COVID-19 in 2020 and the series of Movement Control Orders imposed by the Government have disrupted the physical learning and teaching sessions in schools, hence, MRC will also organise an academic enhancement programme for some 2,000 Form 1 and Form 2 students known as 4M Programme (Membaca, Menulis, Mendengar dan Mengira), to strengthen the fundamental skills of the students so that they do not fall behind and can progress further in school.

“We hope to bring about positive change that will foster a caring society who are always ready to help those in need.” said MRC CEO, Nor Hizwan Ahmad. Hizwan also emphasized MRC’s role in establishing a balance in the ecosystem to ensure that everyone in the rubber industry fulfils their corporate responsibilities.

The Back to School pack consists of essential school supplies such as bags, stationery, workbooks, coloured pencils, and other basic necessities, including Parents and Teachers Association (PTA) fees.
