SKP Resources Hires TUV Rheinland To Audit Compliance On Migrant Worker Labour Practices

SKP Resources Berhad has appointed TÜV Rheinland Malaysia Sdn. Bhd. to conduct an independent third-party social compliance (forced labour) audit of its labour practices and operations.

The subsidiary of TÜV Rheinland Group Germany is an independent auditor for social compliance, responsible business, and economic sustainability issues. Electric manufacturing services, SKP seeks TUV to examine and identify whether SKP and its subsidiaries are involved in any practices that may be considered any of 11 indicators of forced labour, as defined by the International
Labour Organization and verify whether these subsidiaries have all carried out an adequate remediation programme with respect to repayment of recruitment fees previously paid by their migrant workers to agents or third parties.

This was due to International Migrant Worker Rights Specialist, Mr. Andy Hall, highlighting to SKP in December 2021 concerns regarding the company’s management of its migrant workers.

The appointment of the independent third-party social compliance auditor, coverage, and methodology of the audit was made in consultation with the activist, with the audit to commence soon.

TÜV will work alongside various internal resources teams to complete the audit in two months.
