Bursa Traded in Range Bound as Overall Sentiment Remains Mixed; Anticipation for Fed’s Speech

Kuala Lumpur, Mar 22 –Bursa Malaysia closed marginally lower on Tuesday, the FTSE BM KLCI shaved 1.35 points or 0.09% at 1,585.81. The overall sentiments remained mixed, not just in Malaysia. Technically speaking, KLCI failed to record a fresh “higher high”, with the upside capped at the 1,593.50-point of resistance level. The index is very probable to undergo consolidation. Majority of the equities markets in Asia-Pacific region closed mildly positive, trailed after a late rebound in US markets. While HSI closed in bullish positive territory. Investors are eyeing Fed Chairman Jerome Powell’s speech on Wednesday as he is likely to dictate the roadmap of six more interest rate hikes during the year.

** The FTSE BM KLCI opened at 1,585.53 . The index fluctuated between 1,583.77 –  1,591.67.

** 504 counters are gainers,  441 counters are unchanged, while 403 counters are losers.

** Total volume of 3,090,477,430 recorded; while Turnover of RM2,843,493,248 .

** Singapore’s Straits Times Index (STI) dropped 3.54 points  or -0.11% to 3,351.97 ; Hong Kong’s HSI Index advanced 667.94 points or +3.15% at 21,889.28;  Japan’s Nikkei 225 up 396.68 points or +1.48% at 27,224.11; and Korea’s KOSPI up 23.95 points or +0.89% to 2,710.00;  Shanghai’s SSE Index rose 6.18 points or 0.19% at 3,259.86; Australia’s All Ordinaries rose 61.80 points or +0.82% to 7,620.70
