Sunway Construction Announces The Resignation Of Group MD And Apppoints Replacement

Sunway Construction Group has announced the resignation of Chung Soo Kiong as Group Managing Director of the Company with effect from 1 April 2022 as part of its succession plan.

Mr Chung will move to another position within the Sunway Group of companies and as part of its management succession plan, Mr. Liew Kok Wing, aged 53, will be appointed as Group Managing Director on the same day. 

Presently, Mr. Liew is the Managing Director of Sunway Construction Sdn Bhd, a wholly-owned subsidiary of the Company.  He is also the alternate director to Mr. Chung in the Board of the Company. He is a qualified engineer with a Bachelor of Engineering (Hons) in Civil Engineering, National University of Singapore (“NUS”), and a Master of Science degree in Civil Engineering, NUS.  He has more than 20 years of experience in the construction industry.

Mr. Liew began his career with L&M Geotechnic in Singapore in 1993, as a Project Engineer at various construction projects in Singapore before moving to Thailand as Project Manager in charge of infrastructure works for a low rise luxury housing project in Bangkok.

In 1996, Mr. Liew joined SunCon as Senior Geotechnical Engineer before joining Nishimatsu Construction Company Singapore in 1998.

He rejoined SunCon in 2000 and was promoted during the course of overseeing various projects in Malaysia and India to the position of Senior General Manager, heading the Civil Engineering Division in 2003. He was further promoted as the Deputy Managing Director in 2016 and as the Managing Director of SunCon on 1 January 2020.
