S P Setia And TNB Embark On Sustainable Commercial And Residential Development

A signing ceremony of a memorandum of understanding (MoU) between S P Setia Berhad and Tenaga Nasional Bhd for the Green Energy Consumption Initiative in Commercial and Residential Development took place today.

S P Setia has successfully implemented property development not only in Malaysia but also in several countries, including Singapore, Vietnam, China, Australia, Japan, and the United Kingdom. Now, they have 48 projects in progress; 41 projects are domestic and 7 projects internationally.

The Memorandum of Understanding between S P Setia and TNB today will reflect the strong commitment of both companies to green energy, in supporting efforts towards “Net Zero” as early as 2050.

Among the key elements in this MoU are: –

• Provision of roof solar panels by TNB to S P Setia residential and commercial units to support green energy. This will optimize electricity costs for future home buyers and support the sustainability agenda.

• To support the growth of electric vehicles (EVs) in Malaysia, TNB will work with S P Setia in providing relevant infrastructure in residential units such as EV chargers and batteries to store energy.

• TNB and SP Setia will jointly promote and raise awareness on rooftop solar, EV technology, and batteries throughout a series of engagements with stakeholders related to the green technology ecosystem and its benefits.

This collaboration can help the government achieve its goal of achieving 45 percent reduction in Greenhouse Gas by 2030. It also takes into account the importance of economic, social, and a clean, healthy, and safe environment for the community.

The government welcomes the initiatives of GLCs and GLICs such as S P Setia Berhad and Tenaga Nasional Berhad who have taken a step forward through their commitment to achieve “net-zero carbon emissions” by 2050. The government also hopes to get full support from various sectors in making the program a success.
