KL Convention Centre Increases Minimum Wage To RM 2500

Alan Pryor, General Manager, Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre

The Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre is proud to announce a RM2,500 minimum wage for its full-time team members, 40% more than the Government mandate, which comes into effect on May 1.

Alan Pryor, General Manager of the Centre, who made the announcement at a recent townhall session said, “Building on our commitment to protecting our team members’ welfare and well-being, our minimum wage revision factors in the rising cost of living in Kuala Lumpur. Our team members are our greatest asset and as we resume business in full capacity after two years, this decision is not only timely but also the right one.”

Pryor also shared that the hospitality sector is facing a huge manpower shortage as Malaysia welcomes international events and tourists back to its shores, “In the aftermath of COVID-19, we are dealing with a reduced supply chain, decreasing workforce and stiff competition locally and regionally. Improved wage and compensation policies need to be implemented industry-wide to attract fresh talent and to boost current staff morale.”

The Centre is also currently actively recruiting part-timers to join its Ambassador Programme that provides a complimentary Basic Food Handler course, refresher training allowance, SOCSO and EPF contributions, flexible working schedule, uniform, duty meal, and night shift transport allowance. Interested candidates may contact Norzehan Hamdan at 017 990 7995 for more information. Tertiary students are encouraged to apply.

In a recent statement, the Centre said it is preparing to welcome 117 business and entertainment events up to December 2022. The upcoming events include Mega Careers & Study Fair (15th Edition), International Congress on Infectious Diseases (ICID) 2022; International Conference on Tropical Agriculture (ICTA) 2022; International Geoscience and Remote Sensing Symposium (IGARSS) 2022; Asia Turbomachinery & Pump Symposium (ATPS) 2022; 3rd Asia Optometric Congress 2022; International Medical Exhibition & Conference (IMEC EXPO) 2022; International Café & Beverage Show 2022; Home Design & Interior Exhibition 2022, Control World Expo, International Beauty Expo 2022, Oil & Gas Asia 2022; and International Invention, Innovation & Technology Exhibition (ITEX) 2022.
