PERKESO’s 13th ‘Ops Kesan’ Begins On June 1

The Social Security Organization (PERKESO) will launch the 13th ‘Ops Kesan Perkeso’ starting June 1 after being delayed for two years due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Socso Chief Executive, Datuk Seri Mohammed Azman Datuk Aziz said, it is to ensure that every employer who employs at least one employee must register and contribute with the organization.

“For two years we have not been able to hold an ‘Op Kesan’ and this year the 13th ‘Ops Kesan’ is to ensure that every employer who employs at least one employee must register and contribute with Socso, which is based on the provisions under Sections 4 and 5 of the Act.

Occupational Safety 1969 (Act 4), and Sections 14 and 16 of the Employment Insurance Scheme Act (Act 800).

“We are also implementing, looking after the welfare of the self-employed based on the Self-Employment Social Security Act 2017 (Act 789),” he told a press conference in the capital on Wednesday.

Therefore, all employers who have not registered and contributed to their employees are urged to do so during the recovery period from 1 to 31 May.

“For that I hope during this amnesty period, between May 1 to May 31, all employers who employ at least one worker, domestic workers, foreign workers, those self-employed under the transport and e-hailing sector are required to register and contribute.

“On June 1, 2022, if employers fail to do so, we will carry out a nationwide ‘Op Kesan’ for their impact. If they fail to do so, we will compound and if they fail to pay the compound, they can be prosecuted in court and if convicted they can be fined RM10. 000 or two years in prison or both, “he said.

As of March 31, a total of 527,659 active employers have registered with Socso.

A total of 8.74 million workers were recorded to have received protection after being registered and contributed by employers.

In addition, starting July 1, 2020, foreign workers have been required to register under Act 4.

“Before the pandemic phase, a total of two million foreign workers were registered under Act 4 and they are also protected under the Employees’ Social Security Act 1969,” he said.

Beginning June 1, 2021, Socso has also extended the protection of Act 4 to domestic workers.

He said that as of April 22, more than 90,000 domestic workers were reported to have not registered and contributed to Socso.

“We found 100,000 domestic workers out there, but so far, as of April 22, only 7,793 of them have registered and contributed. Nearly more than 90,000 of these domestic workers are personal drivers, gardeners, local maids and others. , their employers have not yet registered and contributed.

“So ‘Ops Kesan’ not only wants to make sure employers comply with Act 4, Act 800, we also want to impact those who hire domestic workers and also hire foreign workers and those who are self-employed.
