Kuala Lumpur, May 17 –Bursa Malaysia closed broadly higher today with positive market breadth whereby gainers outnumbered losers. KLCI moved slightly higher buoyed by heavyweights like PMetal, Nestle, HLFG. Meanwhile, the equities markets in Asia Pacific region edged higher, it could be explained by a bet on officials to unwind lockdown in Shanghai after Shanghai reported three days of zero community transmission. The performance of the Asia Pacific stock markets is uplifting despite global growth data that could trigger worries, that is to say global economic recovery may be more fragile than expected when inflationary pressures have a negative impact on the disposal income. Hong Kong’s HSI rose almost 3.3% today lifted by tech stocks eg Meituan, Xiaomi, Alibaba, and automotive stocks eg Geeli, BYD and banking stocks. While All Ordinaries Index rose maunly due to mining, banking and energy stocks.
