Asian Stocks Ended Mostly Lower Amid Inflation and Growth Fears

Kuala Lumpur, June 9 – The Malaysian equities closed broadly lower on Thursday, the FBM KLCI skidded 0.93% following the performance of the majority of Asian stocks. Asian equities markets mostly closed lower, tracked Wall Street’s losses, as well as bear the burden of firmer yields. Market participants buckled up for the European Central Bank’s signal that it is ready to raise its interest rates for the first time in a decade. A plethora of concerns or worries hanging in the air, e.g. the inflation numbers to be released at the end of the week to be elevated; the OECD cuts the global growth outlook for 2022 while World Bank President warned that faster-than-expected tightening could recall a debt crisis similar to the one seen in the 1980s; the yen weakened to a new 20-year low on bets the Bank of Japan will lag way behind.

** The FTSE BM KLCI ceded 14.15 points or -0.93 % at 1509.71 .

** The FTSE BM KLCI opened at 1,523.31. The index fluctuated between 1,509.54 – 1,526.83.

** 315 counters are gainers, 394 counters are unchanged, while 601 counters are losers.

** Total volume of 2,884,641,900 shares changed hands; while Turnover of RM 2,060,213,070

** Singapore’s Straits Times Index (STI) dropped 21.42 points or -0.66% to 3,204.38 ; Hong Kong’s HSI ceded 145.54 points or -0.66% at 21,869.05 ;  Japan’s Nikkei 225 rose 12.24 points or +0.04% at 28,246.53 ; Korea’s Kospi Index dipped 0.71 points or +0.027% at 2,625.44 ; Shanghai’s SSE Index dropped 24.84 points or -0.76% at 3,238.95 ; Australia’s All Ordinaries down 106.60 points or -1.45% to 7,240.40.
