Asian Stocks Closed Mostly in Negative Territory Ahead of US Inflation Data, KLCI Shriveled Below 1,500 Pt

Kuala Lumpur, June 10 – Bursa Malaysia closed broadly lower on Friday, FBM KLCI almost shrank 1%. Dragged by profit-taking of heavyweights. Overall the local bourse was dominated with negative market breadth and sentiment, losers outnumbered gainers coupled with very thin trading volume. Elsewhere in Asia, the equities markets in the region mostly closed in negative territory, as Japan’s Nikkei 225 leading the pack by ceding almost 1.50% as investors are cautious over the release of the US inflation. The US CPI is expected to sustain above 8% consecutively for the third month. Hence the probability of a prolonged hawkish stance by the Fed would be higher.

Shanghai’s SSE Index ended higher today due to lower than expected China’s annual inflation, which is reported to be at 2.1%. It came a little lower than the estimates of 2.2%. Meanwhile, the Producer Price Index (PPI) has come in line with the forecast of 6.4% and is significantly lower than the prior print of 8%. This has delighted the People’s Bank of China (PBOC) to keep up with the prudent monetary policy.
