KLCI Slumped 1.5% While HK and Shanghai Stocks in Positive Note on Dip-Buying

Kuala Lumpur, June 15 – Bursa Malaysia reversed the gains of yesterday’s closing and ended 1.5% lower on Wednesday as the investors are still jittery over the highly-likelihood of rate hike in US. The bell-weathered index is expected to whipsaw in the near term unless a positive catalyst comes along.

The Asian stocks closed mixed on Wednesday as Japan’s Nikkei 225 Index and Australia’s All Ordinaries and Korea’s KOSPI slumped over 1% in line with the overnight performance of DJIA. Meanwhile, the stocks markets of HK and Shanghai ended in positive note due to upbeat economic data. The annual Retail Sales of China at -6.7%, flared much better than the forecast of -7.1% and the prior print of -11.1%. While the IPI has turned positive as it recorded 0.7%,which is significantly higher than the consensus of -0.7% and the former figure of -2.9%. Despite, the two-month Covid curbs imposed by the Chinese authorities, the Chinese economy showed resilience.

** The FTSE BM KLCI slumped 22.23 points or -1.50% at 1,459.05.

** The FTSE BM KLCI opened at 1,480.88. The index fluctuated between 1,453.19 – 1,480.96.

** 231 counters are gainers, 382 counters are unchanged, while 732 counters are losers.

** Total volume of 2,425,717,000 shares changed hands; while Turnover of RM 1,821,355,600

** Singapore’s Straits Times Index (STI) rose 8.69 points or +0.28 % to 3,117.58 ; Hong Kong’s HSI advanced 240.22 points or +1.14% at 21,308.21 ;  Japan’s Nikkei 225 dived 303.70 points or -1.14% at 26,326.16 ; Korea’s Kospi Index down 45.59 points or -1.83% at 2,447.38 ; Shanghai’s SSE Index climbed 16.50 points or +0.5% at 3,305.41 ; Australia’s All Ordinaries index dived 95.40 points or -1.39% at 6,785.58.
