PIAM And MTA Announces Winners Of Road Safety Campaign Contest

Persatuan Insurans Am Malaysia (PIAM) and Malaysian Takaful  Association (MTA) today announced the winners of the “With ‘Us’ Road Safety Contest”. The Contest was held in conjunction with the ‘Us’ Road Safety Campaign that was launched on April 21. The campaign succeeded in instilling greater awareness among road users and educating the public on the high rate of accidents, its main causes and the impact on communities, the economy, and the nation as a whole.

PIAM Chairman, Antony Lee Fook Weng said, “I am pleased that the campaign was well-received  especially among the youth. It is my earnest hope that this Campaign will instill a greater sense of awareness with regard to road safety among Malaysians and contribute towards reducing road accidents. We will not stop here. It is our intention to have a long-term and sustainable  campaign as education is an ongoing and lifelong process.”

According to Chief Executive Officer of Malaysian Takaful Association, Mohd Radzuan Mohamed,  “In line with the campaign slogan highlighted this year, “Safety starts with ‘S’ but begins with  ‘U’”, every individual must shoulder the responsibility for making our roads safer by practicing safe driving habits, and being alert and considerate when on the roads. Road safety awareness  campaigns will not have an impact if road users still continue to be reckless, indisciplined and unethical while on the roads.”

During the campaign period, PIAM and MTA lined up a series of activities including the “With ‘Us’  Road Safety Contest”. In this Contest, participants were required to use their creativity to produce unique social media content on Road Safety and post their entries on their preferred social media platforms with the required hashtags. The Contest attracted close to 1,000 entries which were evaluated based on a set of criteria, namely creativity, impact, message, and engagements with the targeted audience.

The Contest provided an avenue for Malaysians to share their views and tips on road safety.  Participants, comprising the general public, played an important and active role as influencers towards improving road safety by having to share their postings on their respective social media accounts as part of the Contest requirement.

The prizes were presented by Director of PIAM Fukhairudin Mohd Yusof, who is also Chief  Executive Officer of Etiqa Insurance Berhad, and Mohd Radzuan Mohamed, CEO of MTA.

The ‘Us’ Road Safety Campaign targeted car drivers, motorcyclists, gig economy workers as well as commercial drivers who are the main road users. It was the campaign’s aspiration that road users could embrace road safety as a long-term lifestyle habit and option. As traffic levels return to normalcy, it is essential for all road users to adopt safe driving behaviour and to encourage motorists to remain cautious while on the roads.
