KLCI Edged Higher Propped by Dip-Buying, Asian Equities Closed Mixed in Cautious Sentiment

Kuala Lumpur, July 21 – Bursa Malaysia edged higher on Thursday’s closing with the bell-weathered index FBM KLCI climbed 13.34 points or +0.93% at 1,450.32. The KLCI was lifted by the dip-buying of the selected heavyweights. Whilst, The market breadth of the overall market was positive with gainers outpaced losers. Asian equities markets closed mixed today as market sentiment remains mixed as the Asia-Pacific equity traders are on their toes when the Covid cases are rising again whilst the fears of recession continue to haunt the sentiment. Also grabbing the mood of the investors is European Central Bank (ECB) monetary policy meeting. Japan’s Nikkei 225 performed the best compared to its peers as the Bank of Japan (BOJ) defends its easy money policies despite citing inflation fears. Chinese stocks dipped lower amid looming fears of real-estate bankruptcy and coronavirus crisis.

** The FTSE BM KLCI opened at 1,441.16. The index fluctuated between 1,440.05 – 1,451.33.

** 589 counters are gainers, 396 counters are unchanged, while 302 counters are losers.

** Total volume of 2,128,412,100 shares changed hands; while Turnover of RM 1,379,917,386

** The Top 5 Gainers: NESTLE (134.40, +0.80) ; PANAMY (26.68, +0.78) ; UTDPLT (14.64, +0.64) ; BKAWAN (22.60, +0.58) ; FANG-2XL (7.23, +0.55)

** The Top 5 Losers: MFLOUR-LA (1.16, -0.15) ; HSI-CJ0 (0.935, -0.135) ; PADINI (3.09, -0.13) ; HSI-CJR (1.35, -0.12) ; HSI-CJQ (0.195, -0.115)

** The Top 5 Most Active Stocks: MMAG (0.045, -0.005) ; FOCUS (0.025, +0.005) ; HSI-CJA (0.23, -0.035); MTRONIC-WB (0.065, -0.055) ; BINTAI (0.105, -0.015)

** Singapore’s Straits Times Index (STI) down 16.59 points or -0.52% to 3,153.70;  Hong Kong’s HSI ceded 315.59 points or -1.51% at 20,574.63; Japan’s Nikkei 225 up 122.74 points or +0.44% at 27,803.00 ; Korea’s Kospi Index up 22.31 points or +0.93% at 2,409.16; Shanghai’s SSE Index dropped 32.72 points or +0.99% at 3,272.00; Australia’s All Ordinaries index rose 43.20 points or +0.62% at 7,018.40.
