Awantec CEO Rezal Rahman Resigns

Awantec has confirmed that its CEO, Rezal Rahman has stepped down from his position in response to his departure the Board of Directors of AwanBiru Technology Berhad has established a Board Oversight Committee (BOC) led by Ramanathan Sathiamutty and supported by Dr. Abu Hasan Ismail.

The BOC which takes effect from August 1 will be tasked to oversee and provide guidance to the management team of Awantec pending the appointment of a new CEO. Rezal will be leaving Awantec after serving his six-month tenure as CEO to pursue entrepreneurial opportunities. 

Ramanathan, who is an Independent Non-Executive Director, has been a director at Awantec since 2014 and was also the former advisor to CEO of Celcom Axiata, as well as the Managing Director of IBM Malaysia Sdn Bhd. Ramanathan currently chairs the Risk Management Committee of Awantec. 

Dr. Abu is the founder of Awantec, recognised as one of the leading providers of outsourced ICT Training and Services in the country. Currently, Dr Abu is the Founder Mentor at Awantec where he remains the single largest shareholder of the Group and a non-executive board member.  

Awantec Chairman, Tuan Syed Naqiz Shahabuddin said, “Our Board of Directors and I have made the decision to form this Board Oversight Committee to support the Management as they focus on maintaining and building on the growth trajectory of Awantec since it began its transformation journey a few years ago. We have a very capable team of management who have been the driving force behind the very success of the Company. We trust that Mr. Rama  together with Dr Abu are well qualified and bring significant experience to oversee matters on behalf of the BOD and to act in the interest of all stakeholders.”
