The Proton X50 recorded a monthly sales record of 4,763 units for July 2022 to become the best-selling vehicle in Malaysia, maintaining its position as a leader in the sports utility vehicle (SUV) segment.
In a statement today, Proton Holdings Bhd said the achievement was also the first time the vehicle topped the overall market in sales volume.
The national carmaker sold a total of 11,477 units across six models in July, with the Proton X50 being the best seller, followed by the Proton Saga with 4,521 units.
Proton’s total sales so far are 71,601 units, an increase of 19.7 percent compared to the same period in 2021, he said.
“The total industry volume for the month of July is estimated at 50,500 units,” he said.
According to the statement, exports for the year 2022 so far have increased to 3,102 units, with 380 units in July, surpassing the 3,018 units of sales exported for the whole of 2021.
Proton Saga, Proton X70 and Proton X50 remain the main export models, he said.
Proton’s Deputy CEO, Roslan Abdullah said Proton’s achievements and sales in other segments show that the company’s business plan is on the right track.
“The easing of global trade restrictions has been a big boost for Proton’s export division. With five months left, the company aims this year to show double-digit percentage growth even though we are aware of the economic issues faced in overseas markets,” he said.
