TNB Warns Public Of SMS Scam Offering Blackout Compensation

Tenaga Nasional Bhd (TNB) is issuing an urgent public warning about an SMS scam seeking to swindle victims with bogus compensation related to the recent blackout.

Customers who get the SMS are informed that those impacted by the power outage will receive RM100 in their Touch ‘n Go ewallet as compensation. They will subsequently be sent to a fraudulent Touch ‘n Go URL in order to check their balance.

TNB has warned customers not to click on the link in a Facebook post, despite the fact that the SMS was received from TNB’s own number, 15454. Users are also advised to double-check any information with TNB.

Datuk Seri Takiyuddin Hassan, Minister of Energy and Natural Resources, has declared that customers, particularly merchants, can file claims for losses incurred during the outage, as TNB would issue reimbursements.
