TricubesNCR JV To Scale New Heights Under Ahmad Azhar

Ahmad Azhar Kamarulzaman is no stranger to TricubesNCR JV Sdn Bhd as he has been instrumental in propelling the firm to its consistent performance in providing technology solutions to businesses and governments in Malaysia.

Ahmad Azhar assumed the Chief Executive Officer role with effect from January 2022 and takes over the reins from Khairun Mokhtar who has moved on to a new role in software and services. The firm is recognised as an organisation that researches, designs and develops Information Technology (IT) solutions for Enterprise Mobility Software (EMS), Identity Authentication Systems (IAS), and IT Maintenance Services (ITMS).

“I offer my gratitude to the management team and colleagues for entrusting me with this new role. Their confidence definitely drives me to perform and work harder to lead TricubesNCR JV to greater heights in our industry,” Ahmad Azhar said.

Coming onboard Tricubes in 2000, he was appointed Head of Product Development and Engineering – a unit that took on designing and engineering activities centred on a range of products related to MyKad and Fingerprint Biometrics. 

Ahmad Azhar lead the design to manufacturing process of more than 5 products such as the Sekure 5, T1040i, Tripaq, Secure Xcess, and Biometric Kiosk which led Tricubes to be one of the market leaders in Malaysia for installed base under the smartcard and biometrics solution segments. 

“I strongly believed that Malaysian companies have shown the ability to build competitive products and services in the technology sector given the right environment and support. My 22-years journey with the company continues and with the growth in biometrics such as facial recognition and E-kyc, Tricubes is confident that it can leverage on its traditional customer base in Banking , Utilities and Goverments to grow its business. These are exciting times really,” he said.

Graduating with Cum Laude in Electrical Engineering from the University of The Pacific in California in 1986, Ahmad Azhar’s career trail began as a Test Engineer with Thomson-Mostek Corporation in Penang in 1987. The organisation evolved within the SGS-Thomson group of businesses into ST Microelectronics. Ahmad Azhar held positions as a Test Engineering Manager and a Planning System Manager at ST Microelectronics’ manufacturing facility in Muar, prior to joining Tricubes. 

Ahmad Azhar is also a member of TC9 – Malaysia Smartcard Standards Working Committee since its inception in 2005. His role as an industry representative tasks him to address the required standards and high security requirements for the MyKad and Biometrics eco-systems. Ahmad Azhar’s main focus in the committee is the security standards of the Biometrics MyKad Readers with proper governance and principal authorisation and certification, especially for MyKad’s proprietary data components. This is to ensure that the MyKad document is regarded as a highly secured document globally.
