Construction Sector Picked Up 6.1% in Q2 : DoSM

In the latest statistics released by the Department of Statistics Malaysia (DoSM), construction sector rebounded to 6.1% year-on-year in the second quarter of 2022 (Q2 2022) with value of work done of RM29.9 billion.

While the three main states that contributed a total of RM15.4 billion or takes up the lion’s share of 51.6% value of work done in Q2 2022 are Selangor, Federal Territory (FT) and Sarawak. Selangor contributed RM6.8 billion value of work done; FT, RM5.2 billion whilst Sarawak takes the third place with RM3.5 billion.

Meanwhile, private sector took up a larger share of construction work done with a whopping 58.1% or RM17.4 billion. On the other hand, public sector with 41.9% or in ringgit terms, RM12.5 billion of work done.

The construction sector is divided into four categories : Non-residential buildings, special trades activities, residential buildings and civil engineering.

In terms of growth in these four categories, non-residential buildings registered a 18.1% growth YoY; Special trades activities, 11.9%; Residential buildings, 7.9% and Civil engineering, registered a shrink of 4.4%.

In terms of shares of these four categories, non-residential buildings has a share of 31.4%; Special trades activities, 9%; Residential buildings, 23% and Civil engineering, 36.6%.
