Asia Bourses Tumbled in Red, FBM KLCI Breached Below 1,500 Point Level

Kuala Lumpur, Aug 22 (Monday) – Bursa Malaysia extended its loss today with the barometer index, FBM KLCI ceded 17.07 points or -1.13%% to 1,487.37. Meanwhile, most the Asian bourses dipped in red today as the concerns for economic slowdown and an increase in interest rates. On the global bourses last Friday, S&P 500, Nasdaq 100 and European contracts suffered losses – which signal further signs of market participants mildly pessimistic mood. Key data for markets this week is the Fed’s conference at Jackson Hole, Wyoming. Most economists say it is likely that Fed Chair Powell will remain hawkish in dealing with inflation. Today, China’s PBOC has trimmed rate again today to revive its sagging economy. The world’s second-largest economy faces the economic threats of property-sector woes, a power crunch in Sichuan province (which is one of key manufacturing hubs).
