LYC Healthcare to Develop Postpartum Courses with Lincoln University College

LYC Healthcare via its wholly-owned subsidiary LYCMC has entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with private institute of higher education, Lincoln University College and Evexia to jointly develop educational courses related to the provision of postpartum or confinement care services.

LYCMC is one of the largest postpartum confinement operators in Malaysia. Its operations span across four centres in Taman Tun Dr Ismail, Puchong, Bukit Jalil and Johor Bahru with a total capacity of 193 beds. Postpartum confinement centres offer mothers and new born babies with accommodation, specialised meals, post-natal therapy and 24-hour support.

Under the MoU, the parties aim to develop two forms of programs. These include short-term professional confinement courses and long-term diploma courses, specifically Diploma in Medical Assistant.

The program syllabus will be jointly developed by LYCMC and Lincoln University College, with the aim of providing students a holistic education program that will enable them to establish a career in the postpartum or confinement industry or its related businesses.

Confinement courses are very specialised whereby students will learn topics relevant to the specialised care for baby and mother in the critical period after childbirth. They will also gain relevant and suitable experience from relevant on-the-job training at LYCMC’s confinement centres.

Evexia, which is involved in training, project management and consultancy will be appointed as the project manager to coordinate the development of the courses.

“This collaboration was driven by a common goal of engaging and empowering the young, by encouraging them to learn new skills within this growing and attractive industry. In addition, the courses are open to anyone who wish to upskill themselves. We hope to fill the existing labour gap by creating a pool of ready talent in the confinement care industry,” Managing Director cum Group CEO of LYC, Mr. David Sui Diong Hoe said.

Higher household income, rise in female education levels and their participation in the labour force have driven demand for confinement care services.

With Malaysia being a multicultural society, there is a need for confinement centres that cater to different cultures and preferences.

LYCMC’s confinement centres practices a unique fusion of traditional Chinese confinement care and modern professional medical care, suitable for a wider range of demographics.

“Private sector participation is essential to increase the reach and effectiveness of education. Hence, we are pleased to be working with LYC to nurture talents who are industry ready. Beyond this collaboration, we are keen to explore more opportunities across the other healthcare businesses within LYC in the near future,” Lincoln University College’s Prof. Dr. Amiya Bhaumik, Founder and President / Chairman of Lincoln University College said.

A definitive agreement is expected to be finalised by 31 December 2022.
