Asian Bourses Mostly Closed in Green

Kuala Lumpur, Sep 8 (Thursday) – Bursa Malaysia closed in positive territory today with the main index FBM KLCI climbed 3.38 points or +0.23% to 1,494.73. The upward movement of the KLCI was supported by buying interest on selected heavyweights. Meanwhile, most of Asian bourses closed in positive note with the exceptions of Hong Kong and Shanghai. Market participants show varied responses as they are still waiting for the interest rate decision by ECB and Federal Reserve. Japan’s Nikkei 225 jumped 2.31% and back to 28,000 point-level as a result of the upbeat Gross Domestic Product (GDP) data i.e. it grew to 3.5%, which beats the expectations and the prior print of 2.9% and 2.2% respectively on an annual basis. Hong Kong’s HSI declined 1% today and fell below 19,000-point -psychological-level. Prolonged COVID-curd in Chengdu has set the investors in a gloomy mood.

** The FTSE BM KLCI opened at 1,490.87. The index fluctuated between 1,486.98 – 1,497.66

** 416 counters are gainers, 451 counters are unchanged, while 372 counters are losers.

** Total volume of 2,391,722,500 shares changed hands; while Turnover of RM 1,861,060,712

** The Top 5 Gainers: NESTLE (132.90, +0.60); PETDAG (21.88, +0.48); SAM (4.69, +0.28); F&N (22.26, +0.26); HSI-HE7 (1.07, +0.23)

** The Top 5 Losers: PMBTECH-LA (19.00, -0.62); SP500-H13 (2.04, -0.24); BKAWAN (22.76, -0.24); SP500-H19 (1.00, -0.12); TA ANN(4.10, -0.12)

** The Top 5 Most Active Stocks: MTRONIC (0.045, -0.015); SNS (0.26, UNCHANGED); AGMO (0.945, +0.025) ; UMC (0.75, -0.01) ; CNERGEN (0.91, +0.025)

* Singapore’s Straits Times Index (STI) rose 26.24 points or +0.82% to 3,237.07; Hong Kong’s HSI declined 189.68 points or -1% at 18,854.62; Japan’s Nikkei 225 Index jumped 634.98 points or +2.31% at 28,065.28; Korea’s KOSPI Index up 7.82 points or +0.33% at 2,384.28; Shanghai’s SSE Index down 10.71 points or -0.33% at 3,235.59; Australia’s S&P/ASX 200 climbed 119.40 points or +1.77% at 6,848.07.
