Finance Minister: Appointment Of Sabah, Sarawak Representatives To IRB Board Realises MA63 Inclusive Agenda

THE Cabinet has approved the Inland Revenue Board of Malaysia’s (IRB) proposal to amend IRB Act 1995 (Act 533) to allocate representatives from Sarawak and Sabah into its board of directors.

Finance Minister Tengku Datuk Seri Zafrul Abdul Aziz said the proposed amendments will be tabled to Parliament for approval.

“In fact, on Sept 1, 2022, the government appointed a candidate for Sabah to IRB’s board of directors,” he said in a statement today.

This amendment of Act 533 is a result of a discussion during the Special Council Meeting of the Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63) chaired by the prime minister.

“The government welcomes the contribution of ideas and expertise from Sabah and Sarawak representatives on tax administration,” Tengku Zafrul added.

Moreover, the proposal will institutionalise representatives from Sabah and Sarawak on the board of directors of the IRB, and enable the appointment of representatives among the civil servants from both states.
