Singapore Recalls Instant Noodle ‘Mie Sedaap’ Over Pesticide Presence

The Singapore health authority has recalled the sales of Mie Sedaap over traces of ethylene oxide a type of pesticide found in the instant noodles.

Authorities have instructed the distributor Sheng Sheng F&B Industries to recall Mie Sedaap Korean Spicy Soup instant noodles and Korean Spicy Chicken instant noodles from all retailers in the island state.

These recalls affect the Indonesian noodle brands with the expiry date in March and May 2023, Singapore Food Authority which issued the recall directive said ethylene oxide is a pesticide not authorised to be used in food.” Under the Singapore Food Regulations, ethylene oxide is allowed to be used in the sterilisation of spices. The Maximum Residue Limit (MRL) of ethylene oxide in spices should not exceed 50mg/kg.” it added.

This latest recall comes amidst the country enforcing stringent control on food items, the agency recently issued a recall notice to Haagen Dazs ice cream after detecting a similar type of chemical compound in the ice cream.

In Malaysia, the brand which is popular in mamak and stalls is distributed by Gentle Supreme Sdn Bhd.
