Widad Business Group, TNB Partner And Secures LOI To Build 2,100 MW Power Plant In Kapar, Selangor

Widad Business Group (WBG) together with Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB) has secured a Letter Of Intent (LOI) from the Ministry of Energy and Natural Resources for the development of a multi-billion combined cycle gas turbine plant (CCGT).

The multi-billion project which will be sited at a land owned by TNB at Kapar, Selangor will involve the development of a 2,100-megawatt CCGT. The date of the commercial operation is expected to start by 2031. The project will be done through a joint venture between TNB and WBG with the former holding a 60% stake and the latter holding a 40% stake.

Widad Business Group Sdn Bhd Founder and Group Executive Chairman Tan Sri Muhammad Ikmal Opat Abdullah said: “With this contract, we are delighted that WBG has been entrusted with an important role to help our nation achieve carbon-neutrality by 2050. As the world races towards reducing carbon emissions, the Malaysian government’s continued efforts to address climate change issues, including in the area of clean energy generation, should be applauded and WBG aspires to complement the efforts for the long-run.

This project, which is our first undertaking in the CCGT development, will be a major stepping stone as we expand our footprint further in renewable energy. WBG seeks to build on the technical know-how gained from this project, alongside TNB, to undertake more such projects in the future.”
