Asian Bourses Ended in Positive Note to Mirror Robust Gains in Wall Street

Kuala Lumpur, Oct 26 – Bursa Malaysia closed in an upbeat note today with the bell-weathered index FBM KLCI gained 10.57 points or +0.73% at 1,454.98. The index moved higher to mirror robust overnight gains in the US stock market.

All Asian bourses ended in positive note tracking the performance of Wall Street overnight as it rallied for a third straight day even after US Treasure dropped on disappointing consumer confidence data – the latest to suggest slowing US economy.

Hong Kong’s Hang Seng Index gained 1% to 15,317.67 as the index saw the biggest drop in 13 years for the past few days. The index is seen as consolidating above 15,000 point level until further major data.

Singapore’s STI climbed back to 3,000 point level by moving northward 0.79% to mirror the overnight rally of Wall Street. STI was buoyed by CapitaLand Invest, Wilmar, SIA, SATS.

Japan’s Nikkei 225 Index extended another day of rally driven by gains in the Communication, Rubber and Chemical, Petroleum & Plastic sectors.

** The FTSE BM KLCI opened at 1,447.57. The index fluctuated between 1,447.41 – 1,453.78.

** 521 counters are gainers, 376 counters are unchanged, while 354 counters are decliners.

** Total volume of 2,608,370,930 shares changed hands; while Turnover of RM 1,799,964,871

* Singapore’s Straits Times Index (STI) rose 23.56 points or +0.79% to 3,007.71; Hong Kong’s HSI climbed 152.08 points or +1% at 15,317.67; Japan’s Nikkei 225 Index gained 181.56 points or +0.67% at 27,431.84; Shanghai’s SSE Composite Index rose 23.22 points or +0.78% at 2,999.50; Korea’s Kospi Index up 14.49 points or +0.65% at 2,249.56; Australia’s S&P/ASX 200 Index rose 12.30 points or +0.18% at 6,810.90.
