Asian Bourses Mostly Ended October in Upbeat Note

Kuala Lumpur, Oct 31 – Bursa Malaysia ended the last day of October in upbeat note with the bell-weathered index FBM KLCI advanced 13.07 points or +0.90% at 1,460.38. In line with the performance of regional and Wall Street overnight rally.

Meanwhile, the Asian bourses mostly ended in solid gains on Monday tracking decent weekly returns in S&P500. On the other hand, Mainland Chinese stock market and Hong Kong stock market have become jittery. China’s National Bureau of Statistics released its Purchasing Managers’ Index data, with the official manufacturing print registered at 49.2, lower than expectations.

Of the best performer today is Japan’s Nikkei 225 Index, as the investors are setting for an expectation of more stimulus in the economy by the Bank of Japan to support the economy from external demand shocks and weaker economic prospects. It is worth noting that the Japanese central bank governor Haruhiko Kuroda kept the monetary policy unchanged on Friday.

** The FTSE BM KLCI opened at 1,450.94. The index fluctuated between 1,450.94 – 1,468.41.

** 450 counters are gainers, 411 counters are unchanged, while 365 counters are decliners.

* Singapore’s Straits Times Index (STI) rose 35.63 points or +1.16% to 3,094.82; Hong Kong’s HSI shed 176.04 points or -1.18% at 14,687.02; Japan’s Nikkei 225 Index jumped 482.26 points or +1.78% at 27,587.46; Shanghai’s SSE Composite Index dropped 22.44 points or -0.77% at 2,893.48; Korea’s Kospi Index gained 25.21 points or +1.11% at 2,293.61; Australia’s S&P/ASX 200 Index advanced 77.80 points or +1.15% at 6,863.50.
