Wholesale & Retail Trade Sales Value Grew By 23.9% To RM134 Billion In Sept 2022, Says DOSM

The Department Of Statistics Malaysia (DOSM) cited Malaysia’s sales value of Wholesale & Retail Trade recorded RM134.0 billion in September 2022, registering  a growth of  23.9 per cent year-on-year.

The positive growth was contributed by all sub-sectors,  namely  Motor  Vehicles   51.0  per  cent,  Retail  Trade   30.0 per cent, and Wholesale Trade  13.3 per cent, DOSM’s Report titled Wholesale & Retail Trade, September 2022 cited today (Nov 11).

In terms of volume index, Wholesale & Retail Trade registered  18.4 per centyear-on-year to record  146.0 points.

The increment was supported by the increase in Motor Vehicles  43.9 per cent,  Retail  Trade   27.1  per  cent,  and  Wholesale  Trade  3.5 per cent. As for seasonally adjusted volume index, it went down  2.0 per cent month-on-month in September 2022.

DOSM, in its release today also found that the Volume index of Wholesale & Retail Trade registered a growth of 25.9 per cent to reach 144.5 points as compared to the same quarter of the previous year.

The Volume Index of Wholesale & Retail Trade Third Quarter 2022 repot saw a positive growth being recorded in all sub-sectors namely Motor Vehicles 142.4 per cent, Retail Trade 29.6 per cent, and Wholesale Trade 7.1 per cent. Meanwhile, for quarter-on-quarter comparison, volume index also increased 1.6 per cent in this quarter.

For seasonally adjusted volume index, Wholesale & Retail Trade decreased  -2.1 per cent as against the second quarter of 2022.

A volume index is an average of the proportionate changes in the quantities of a specified set of goods or services between two periods of time.
