MCMC Tells The Public To Refrain From Provocative Postings

The Interim Chairman of the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC), Tan Sri Mohamad Salim bin Fateh Din has reminded the public to be prudent and refrain from giving hateful views involving race and religion. All parties should respect the results of the election and the election of the Prime Minister that will be made by the Yang di-Pertuan Agong with an open heart.

Accordingly, MCMC will continue to monitor to curb the spread of unauthentic information and malicious statements involving the 3R elements, namely Royalty, Religion and Race. Any sharing of false, ugly and threatening content is an offense under Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act (AKM) 1998. Conviction of the offense is punishable by a maximum fine of RM50,000 or imprisonment for one year or both.

Joint enforcement action by the PDRM will be taken against those involved based on complaints from members of the public in accordance with existing legal provisions in order to protect public order and interests.
