Malaysia Secures RM7 Million Bioeconomy Deals With Taiwan Partners

Malaysia has secured three bioeconomy collaborations worth about RM7 million with Taiwanese partners, expanding commercial opportunities in insect technology, advanced biochar materials and biotechnology products.

The agreements were formalised at the Malaysia Regional Collaboration Forum held alongside BIO Asia-Taiwan 2026, with Malaysia’s participation led by the Malaysian Bioeconomy Development Corporation.

Fly Technology Agriculture Sdn Bhd signed an approximately RM1 million agreement with Monster Biotech Co Ltd for the long-term supply of black soldier fly-based animal feed ingredients and biofertiliser.

MCHAR Sdn Bhd separately entered into an RM1 million deal with TCHAR Co Ltd for an initial purchase of 20 tonnes of biochar. The partnership will also support MCHAR’s proposed Malaysian manufacturing plant for black pigment and other advanced biochar materials.

The facility is expected to begin operations in 2027 and generate about RM20 million in revenue during the 2027-2028 financial year.

Meanwhile, Glyken Bio Products Sdn Bhd signed a five-year memorandum of understanding worth RM5 million with Taiwan Bansho Co Ltd to expand the commercialisation of its bird’s nest-based biotechnology products in Taiwan.

Bioeconomy Corporation Chief Executive Officer Mohd Khairul Fidzal Abdul Razak said the partnerships would diversify regional supply networks, strengthen resilience and accelerate the commercialisation of Malaysian biotechnology products.

The deals reinforce Malaysia’s push to attract international investment and position itself as a key bioeconomy partner across ASEAN and East Asia.
