Asian Bourses Headed Northward Hopeful on Beijing Stimulus Announcement and Loosening of Curbs

Kuala Lumpur, November 29 – Despite the regional performance, Bursa Malaysia bucked reginal trend and ended Tuesday trading day in a mildly negative tone, with the FBM KLCI down 9.58 points or -0.64% at 1,476.96. The benchmark index moved slightly southward due to profit-taking in selected heavyweights.

Meanwhile, the Asian bourses rebounded today with the rumours that Beijing may loosen the Covid-curbs after protests broke out in Shanghai, Guangzhou, Xinjiang and a few other places. On top of that, market sentiment also lifted due to talks on Beijing may consider economic stimulus to offset bleak economic projections.

Hong Kong’s Hang Seng Index soared 5.24% to 18,204.68 on the back of less stringent Covid-measures. The index was lifted by banking, technology, insurance, and property stocks. Whilst Shanghai’s SSE Composite Index also jumped 2.31% to 3,149.75, its best performance in 1 year.

The only laggard is Japan’s Nikkei 225 index, dropped 0.48% to 28,027.84. Japan’s mixed data has dented investors’ sentiment. Japan’s annual economic data landed at 4.3% came lower than projections of 5.0%. Meanwhile monthly Retail Sales are grown by 0.2%.

* The FTSE BM KLCI opened at 1,483.77. The index fluctuated between 1,467.26 – 1,486.68.

Singapore’s Straits Times Index (STI) inched up 32.70 points or +1.01% to 3,272.76; Hong Kong’s HSI skyrocketed 906.74 points or +5.24% at 18,204.68; Japan’s Nikkei 225 Index ceded 134.99 points or -0.48% at 28,027.84; Shanghai’s SSE Composite Index climbed 71.20 points or +2.31% at 3,149.75; Korea’s Kospi Index up 25.12 points or +1.04% at 2,433.39; Australia’s S&P/ASX 200 Index gained 24.20 points or +0.33% at 7,253.30.
