Team From UUM Crowned Champions In Bursa’s Trading Challenge

Student Team Golden Bull from University Utara Malaysia snagged the first prize of RM15,000 at the Bursa InterVarsity Stock Challenge, a stock market trading simulation that is designed to educate students on the process of trading on the Exchange.

The Bursa Inter-Varsity Stock Challenge is part of Bursa Malaysia’s ongoing commitment to engage, educate, and empower a new generation of informed future investors. The 3-month virtual stock trading competition using real time price feed is designed to challenge university students to build a share portfolio with the highest returns by deploying different investing principles and trading strategies. Students have an opportunity to gain practical experience to understand and learn the intricacies of trading on the stock market.

For this year’s challenge, a total of 730 teams comprising of 1,185 university students registered representing both private and public varsities. A virtual startup capital of RM100,000 and were required to perform virtual trades using the simulator provided by N2N Connect Bhd and hosted on the Bursa Academy website. Guidance and mentoring was provided by the Bursa Inter-Varsity Stock Challenge partner brokers, namely AmInvestment Bank Berhad, CGS-CIMB Securities Sdn Bhd,
Public Investment Bank Berhad, and RHB Investment Bank Berhad.

Three top teams from each participating university presented their trading strategies used throughout the Trading Challenge Phase. During the Trading Challenge Phase, a total of six prizes were awarded to teams with the highest portfolio value at the end of each fortnight. The winners are:

The top three teams at the Grand Finale of the Bursa Inter-Varsity Stock Challenge 2022 were team Boomer from UM at third place winning RM5,000, Team Blazing Amber from USM at second place, winning RM10,000, and Team Golden Bulls from UUM at first place, winning RM15,000.

Based on the strong response, the Exchange plans to organise the Bursa Inter-Varsity Stock Challenge as an annual event.
