Following the announcement by the Prime Minister on Dec 3, 2022, the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Industry (MAFI) has been rebranded as the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security.
Accordingly, the Post-Cabinet Meeting on Dec 7, 2022 has agreed to MAFS as the new acronym to be used.
In a letter from the ministry’s Secretary General dated Dec 13, 2022, the rebranding is in line with the Government’s aspiration to improve the security level of the country’s agro-food sector to be more resilient and sustainable.
MAFS is also committed to ensuring that the national food supply system is guaranteed in terms of availability, accessibility, use and stability in all agro-food activity chains including production, processing, distribution, preparation, food safety and nutrition.
In this connection, the vision, mission and functions of the Ministry remain as they are as they are still in line with the main focus of the Government.
