Asian Bourse Grind Higher as China’s Pro-Growth Policy and Japanese Govt Projection

Kuala Lumpur, December 22 – Bursa Malaysia edged higher on Thursday with the bell-weathered index, FBM KLCI climbed 5.80 points or +0.4% at 1,468.35, moved in tandem with the regional peers.

Meanwhile Asian bourse climbed to black, as investors cheer softer Treasury yields and upbeat headlines from the regional leaders China and Japan.

In China, policymakers brace for pro-growth measures whilst on the same page could be the People’s Bank of China’s (PBOC) pledge to help overcome a slump in the local property market.

The latest statement by Japanese government on its upward projection for economic growth forecasts for the fiscal year 2023.

Hong Kong’s HSI swinged up 2.71%, the best performer of today, pushed the index up to 19,679.22. Whist, Japan’s Nikkei 225 Index reversed its losing streak and gained 0.46% at 26,507.87.  Australia’s S&P/ASX 200 index also soared on the hopes of improved with Beijing and confidence in consumption, as conveyed by local banks.

The stock markets may witness lackluster moves, given the holiday mood. The final prints of the US Gross Domestic Product (GDP) and Core Personal Consumption Expenditure (PCE) details for the third quarter (Q3) could entertain traders ahead of Friday’s US Core PCE Price Index for November.

** The FTSE BM KLCI opened at 1,463.79. The index fluctuated between 1,462.41 – 1,468.03.

** 447 counters are gainers, 424 counters are unchanged, while 386 counters are decliners.

** Total volume of 2.502 billion shares changed hands; while Turnover of RM 1.329 billion

** The Top 5 Gainers: NESTLE (138.80, +1.70); PCHEM (8.40, +0.32); SEM (1.90, +0.25); DKSH (4.56, +0.16); HSI-CLR (1.24, +0.16)

** The Top 5 Losers: KLUANG (3.66, -0.27); HLFG (18.48, -0.24); TENAGA-C10 (0.10, -0.24); HEIM (25.34, -0.22); PPB (17.20, -0.18)

** The Top 5 Active: ASB (0.18, 0.00); SERBADK (0.01, 0.00); RENEUCO (0.30, +0.045); HSI-CLC (0.525, +0.11); TOPGLOV (0.755, +0.035)

Singapore’s Straits Times Index (STI) gained 16.05 points or +0.49% to 3,272.24; Hong Kong’s HSI jumped 518.73 points or +2.71% at 19,679.22; Japan’s Nikkei 225 Index climbed 120.15 points or +0.46% at 26,507.87; Shanghai’s SSE Composite Index shed 13.98 points or -0.46% at 3,054.43; Korea’s Kospi Index rose 27.78 points or +1.19% at 2,356.73; Australia’s S&P/ASX 200 Index up 37.40 points or +0.53% at 7,152.50.
