Federal Agricultural Marketing Authority (FAMA) is taking steps to increase the distribution of chicken eggs to meet the rising demand of the domestic market through the cooperation of various departments and agencies under the Ministry of Agriculture and Security Food (MAFS).
To ensure the supply is met, a total of 1.326 million boards or 39.78 million eggs will be widely distributed throughout the country through its 534 outlets from January to June 2023. This year from November to December as many as 87,300 boards or 2.619 million chicken eggs have been distributed directly throughout the country.
Dato’ Haslina Abdul Hamid, Secretary General of MAFS said, “FAMA will ensure the availability of agro-food supplies such as chicken eggs and will make them easily obtained by consumers through the FAMA retail outlet network such as in Pasar Tani, Agrobazaar Rakyat, and others.” Apart from distribution, FAMA has also organised direct from farm sales at its headquarters every Friday on The last week of every month to give local residents the opportunity to get agro-food products such as vegetables, fruits, fish, chicken fresh, and others.
Achievement from the sales has been encouraging with total sales value recorded at RM16.29 million involving 7,586 entrepreneurs in 1,031 locations across the country with RM1.6 million worth of savings recorded. Recently., to address the shortage MAFS brought in chicken eggs from foreign countries to fulfill the gap, the Ministry allowed the entry of chicken eggs from India by air as a trial phase to ensure that imported chicken eggs comply with the set standards.
It also stated that the initiative to bring in supply from outside sources is not to suppress local industry operators but to ensure sufficient supply is met.
