Brain Drain Phenomenon Can Benefit Country, Says Fadillah

The phenomenon of brain drain or migration of experts in Malaysia can be seen as something positive because the government can still utilise their expertise for the benefit of the country, said Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof.

Fadillah who is also the Minister of Plantation and Commodities said that one of the factors in brain drain in the field of research is because there are facilities and complete support systems in other countries such as Silicon Valley, the United States, which are able to increase expertise and potential.

In Malaysia, many go to other countries especially in the field of science and technology because there is no overall value chain that can provide comfort and convenience to them.

“Brain drain needs to be seen from a different angle, which is how we take advantage of the people who are outside so that they can contribute to the country. In my opinion, if there is migration for that purpose, it is a good thing,” he said at a dinner party with the Malaysian diaspora in Indonesia here tonight, in conjunction with a three-day working visit starting today.

In addition to being a link between Malaysia and the country where they are located, Fadillah said the research results of these experts can be used in Malaysia.
