Free Sports Channel Scheduled For This Year: Fahmi

Communication Minister Fahmi Fadzil has informed that there will be a free dedicated sports channel that is scheduled to go live in quarter two this year.

The Minister said the channel is currently being developed and will be ready for the public sometime in Q2, this was reported by the national news agency Bernama.

Information is still sketchy on whether it will focus on local content or overseas live games and matches. Currently, the football league in Malaysia is only available on selected channels and while the rest are on subscription tv. While international sports are mostly on Astro which requires a subscription.

A free sports tv is most interesting to note as long as taxpayers’ money was not used and if it’s a private entity, the content being aired is crucial for its sustainability.
